How does Vitamin C help skin?

The ever-famous and delicious Florida oranges do more than simply stand in as a healthy snack, balance out a fabulous breakfast or garnish a cocktail. There is an estimated 69.7 mg of vitamin C in one medium-sized Florida orange. The benefits of vitamin C are broad and impressive. Our bodies use the nutrient in a variety of ways:

  • for the growth and repair of tissues
  • for healing wounds
  • repairing and maintaining bones and teeth
  • protection against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye disease
  • improve macular degeneration
  • reduce inflammation
  • reduce the risk of cancer

And what about for the skin? Vitamin C affects cells on the inside and outside of the body. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition examined links between nutrient intakes and skin aging in more than 4,000 women ages 40 to 74. It found that higher vitamin C intakes were associated with a lower likelihood of a wrinkled appearance, dryness of the skin and a better skin-aging appearance
