More About Cesar Villarroel
Born in Bolivia, Cesar came to appreciate the sport of tennis through his father and his older brother whose passion for the game inspired his own love.
We caught up with Cesar for an interview and he taught us that his love for the game is more than just about the sport; he is driven each day to make tennis accessible to all for its ability to build confidence and improve the health of his students.
“Every day I wake up and thank God that I get to help people not just improve their game, but to give them life coaching to help build their confidence, their strength, and their health. I feel that I am giving them a better quality of life. That is what inspires me every day.”
Cesar is a level one USPTA and USPTR instructor, certified through the National Endurance Fitness Training Association and is a member of the Wilson and Adidas Tennis Advisory Staffs. Ranked among the Top 100 Tennis Coaches in the U.S. by Peterson’s Tennis Camps and Clinics, Cesar has coached numerous players over the years.
Nurturing Rising Stars in the Tennis World
Together with Justine Henin and Carlos Rodriguez, Cesar founded Sixth Sense Tennis Academy. One of the students at the Mission Inn-based facility was a young lady named Monica Puig who has since gone on to win the first gold medal for Puerto Rico in tennis in the most recent Olympics.
When we asked Cesar about his impressions of the young tennis sensation, he told us, “I knew she was going to make it because of her work ethic and her drive…her amazing drive.” Today, Monica is ranked #32 in the world.
Cesar’s evaluation of up and coming tennis players doesn’t end with tips on the court. He nutures the confidence of his players with advice that served him well during his pro years.
Part coach, part parent, and part sports pychologist, Cesar tells his students to “always give 100%.” When game setbacks occur and confidence sags, Cesar has a knack for refocusing his players’ energy by urging them not to “take a loss as a negative” and to use this setback “as feedback to work on and to improve your game.”
In addition to his role with Sixth Sense Tennis Academy, Cesar was involved in bringing the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy and Pat Etcheberry Experience to Mission Inn. When asked about his commitment to the sport, Cesar sums up his dedication to the sport and the athletes by saying, “I will be doing the same thing in 5 years and in 10 years and for as long as I can.”
How To Book A Tennis Lesson At Mission Inn Resort
Guests coming to Mission Inn can book a private lesson with Cesar or one of the very qualified pros at least a week in advance. A one hour lesson will hone in on improving an aspect of their game.
For intensive tennis workshops lasting 3 hours, Cesar will begin with an evaluation and then customize a plan to tackle mechanics, footwork, fitness, strategies of game, nutrition and other aspects identified during the evaluation. This is a customized approach based on the age of his student, their fitness level and their goals. Cesar works with athletes of all capabilitites, from 8 years of age and up to 80 years old. Cesar motivates his students by telling them to “enjoy every minute of tennis as it is a privilege to play this great sport.”
Named among the “Top 25 Resorts and Tennis Programs” by World Tennis Magazine, Mission Inn’s tennis facility provides six clay and two all weather tennis courts, a full-service pro-shop with shoes, rackets, stringing and apparel. It hosts yearly league play, junior and adult clinics and a world class junior academy. There are regular cardio fitness sessions, as well as clinics and drills in specific skills.
