The Mackenzie Tour qualifier came on the heels of the Latinoamerica Q School which took place at Mission Inn in January and saw 35 players make the cut for the PGA Latino America Tour.

During the Mackenzie Tour, PGA hopefuls had a lot to say about Mission Inn’s El Campeón course. Charles Huntzinger (U.S.) stated, “For starters, it’s probably the hilliest course in Florida that I’ve ever played. Aside from that, it’s a very tight golf course. It requires you to hit quality shots every single hole. You can’t fake it around here, so I think that in itself just provided a very good test for the week.”

El Campeón is an 18-hole Championship Golf Course designed by Chicago based course Architect George O’Neil in 1917 and enhanced in 1926 by Charles E. Clarke. It is one of the oldest golf courses in the South and blends elevation changes of more than 85 feet with traditional golf design.

“It’s in really great condition. The greens were rolling right around a ten or eleven, I would say… It’s a great golf course, a great test. It kind of demands every shot you have,” said Shawn Tipton.

Player Jordan Gumberg said, “If you are working on your game and you want to make a challenge and you want to come out and test your game, it’s definitely a good place to do it. If you can play a round here, you can play anywhere.”
