Third Annual Inova Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship Recap

This past Memorial Day Weekend, the Mission Inn Resort & Club hosted the Epson Tour for the third annual Inova Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship. The Championship was the culmination of hard work by the Beucher family, Mission Inn Resort staff, the Epson Tour personnel, and our sponsors.

The Beuchers have been supporting local golf for many years, and what better way to show that commitment than continuing to host the Epson Tour, the future of the LPGA. The sponsor invite of the tournament, fifteen-year-old Yana Wilson, also traveled to Howey-in-the-Hills to compete. Aspiring LPGA athletes from all over the world played the spectacular El Campeón course, one of two championship-level courses at the Mission Inn Resort.

The first day saw two rain delays, however, that did not stop 66 players who ended Friday at 1-over par or better. Gina Kim, a rookie on the Epson Tour finished 7-under par, making her the leader after Friday. The Mission Inn Resort was prepared for this as they had a VIP tent set up during all three days between the first and eighteen holes. At the VIP tent, guests were able to purchase food and drink individually or purchase a wristband to get food for the whole day. The various restaurants on our property were open for spectators, including Nicker’s at the Clubhouse, La Margarita, and La Hacienda

The second day of the tournament saw Gina Kim continuing her strong play finishing 4-under par. Kim recorded 6 birdies, and she spoke further on her mindset and play, saying, “It takes a lot of commitment on some tee lines, because it is narrow and there are some interesting dog legs, my ball striking was pretty consistent, and I’ve been reading greens well. Having a simple mindset and not rushing myself has been key to shooting low scores.”

The tournament came to a close on Sunday in a down to the wire battle for first place between Gina Kim and two LPGA Tour members, Caroline Inglis and Maria Fassi. Kim was the winner of the Inova Mission Inn Resort & Club Championship, finishing 11-under par, followed by Ingils and Fassi, both finishing 9-under par.
