Fall is here, and jack o’lanterns, pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin pies are just around the corner, if they’re not here already.
The fall weather is also a great time to take seasonal snapshots and share them on social media. And it’s official: Lake County has one of the most Instagram-worthy pumpkin patches in the entire state of Florida.
Bears, Panthers, and Rare Birds, Oh My!
You may know that Florida is home to alligators and the occasional crocodile, but did you know that the wilds surrounding Mission Inn Resort and the rest Lake County are home to all sorts of wildlife, including black bears, panthers and a variety of species of rare birds.
The annual Florida Wildlife Festival is a great way to learn more about our natural environment. Originally held to help protect the Florida black bear, in recent years the focus has been expanded other native wildlife species, both imperiled and common.
Held on the doorstep of Ocala National Forest, this family-friendly event includes children’s activities and self-guided tours.

Do We Live in ‘Bearlando’?
They’ll sneak into your garage to sample the steaks in the freezer. Maybe top it off with a few pints of Häagen-Dazs. They’re also known to enjoy a beer or two — or 18 — then sleep them off in someone’s driveway. Florida black bears, once a threatened species, seem everywhere these days.
Should we rename our region ‘Bearlando’?
