Mission Inn Resort & Club has unveiled two intertwining historical and educational eco-adventures trails celebrating Central Florida’s early Spanish conquistador explorations. Nestled in the heart of the renowned El Campeon golf course (designed in 1917), the Trails Of The Conquistadors takes you through a third of a mile of undeveloped land reminiscent of native “old Florida”.
The Trails of the Conquistadors provides insight into two very important expeditions, led by Panfilo de Narvaez and Hernando De Soto, that passed through what is now Lake County and Mission Inn, 400 years ago. The trails showcase the historic land’s history while educating on Florida’s native and invasive plant life, regional birds and wildlife. A native butterfly garden marks the entrance to the trails. Plants and animals in the trails change seasonally.
“I knew this beautiful, pristine and wooded property at Mission Inn was unique; no one had ever walked it,” said Paul Hickman, Superintendent, Mission Inn Resort & Club. “Designing and developing the trails has been a passion for me and a testament of the Nick Beucher Family’s commitment to conservation and education.”
“We are proud to announce the opening of The Trails of the Conquistadors and to provide guests with a glimpse of what Florida looked like four centuries ago. This eco-adventure is in honor of our 45th anniversary and our commitment to the environment,” said Bob Beucher, President, Mission Inn Resort & Club. “We feel this is a unique setting for meetings, weddings, special events, team building experiences or just relaxation and learning.”
Visitors interested in walking the trails can visit the Mission Inn Resort & Club’s front desk to obtain an explorer’s guide.
